Split

For Sri Lanka's lyricists, composers and singers

Every song, fairly split

Register a song, agree who owns what share, and have everyone accept it. You all hold the same signed, dated record.

How it works

  1. Register the song

Give it its title, in Sinhala, Tamil or English, and add everyone who wrote, composed and performed it.

  2. Agree the split

Give each person a share. They open a link, see the whole split, and accept it, decline it or suggest a different one.

  3. Hold the record

When everyone has accepted, the split is live: signed, dated and the same for all of you. Changing it takes a new version that everyone accepts again.

What you get

  • Proof of who made the song

Sri Lanka has no copyright register. A split that every contributor has accepted, with the date each one did, is a record you can point to.

  • Licensing requests, answered by the owners

Someone who wants to use a song asks here, and everyone on its split answers. Blanket licences for venues and broadcasters still come from the collecting societies.

  • Next: what each performance owes you

Logging where a song was performed, and seeing what is owed to each owner, is being built now.
